Before Your First Visit
- Make a list of questions you have for your therapist
- List signs and symptoms you need to address
- Bring your completed paperwork
- Call your insurance company directly to verify your insurance benefits
- Arrive 15 mins early for your first appointment
- Bring a copy of your insurance card, photo ID, and referral
What to Expect on Your First Visit
- You will register with our friendly front office staff. They will help you navigate the insurance process and treatment program so you can focus on your recovery.
- You will meet with your physical therapist for the initial evaluation.
- During the evaluation, your therapist will ask questions about your medical history, current pain, or injury. Open communication helps us understand your problem.
- Your movement, strength, coordination, and much more will be evaluated. Our purpose is to help you, so please ensure you communicate with your therapist if anything is hurting or bothering you during the examination.
- Your therapist will recommend and prepare a course of treatments to ensure the quickest recovery and the best results. Your therapist will discuss the recommendations with you.
- You will schedule your series of visits with the front desk. The amount of therapy needed will be discussed with you, depending on the recommendations of your therapist.
- Your therapist will write up their findings and treatment plan to submit to your referring physician.

Aquatic Therapy: What to expect at the pool
Patterson PT offers aquatic therapy in partnership with the Severna Park Community Center, less than 5 minutes from the main office.
- When you arrive, head to the lockeroom to change and/or store your belongings.
- Meet your therapist by the pool. Do not enter the pool until they have greeted you and given instructions.
- Your appointment is typically one hour total, and you will spend most of that time in the water moving through exercises with your therapist.
- Your therapist will communicate directions, offer hands-on therapy, and guide you through your session.
- At the end of your session your therapist will offer you at-home exercises to enhance your treatment plan.
- Head to the lockeroom to change, shower, and/or collect your belongings before heading out!
