At Patterson Physical Therapy, we offer many different kinds of therapy to benefit you and your body.

PATTERSON PHYSICAL THERAPY AQUATIC THERAPY

Imagine an environment in which you are floating, almost weightless, warm & quiet. You feel a Aquatic Therapysensation applied to the entire body which decreases swelling in your joints and other soft tissues. If you move slowly, your activity seems effortless but to speed up you face a resistance ten times greater than air. Yes, this is the wave of the future(and the past). For centuries man has been using the healing effect of water to improve health and vitality.

Taking advantage of the buoyancy principle of water counteracts the effects of gravity on our bodies. It is the same principles that allow people with a painful joint in their leg or an aching back to walk without a limp and bear weight on their limbs without discomfort. Any portion of the body that is submersed in water is subject to this buoyancy factor which is proportional to the volume and mass of the submersed body or part of the body. You can work on activities such as stair climbing, kneeling, and squatting with greater comfort in the water. The water provides for endless options in treating many conditions by lessening pain.

It’s a fact that we need water everyday. Next time you have a glass of water, think about breaking out of the glass to see all of waters benefits!

PATTERSON PHYSICAL THERAPY PATTERSON ATHLETE TRAINING PROGRAM

Athlete Training ProgramPatterson Athlete Training (PAT) was created in 2008, in response to the high number of injured middle and high school athletes being treated in our physical therapy clinic for sports related injuries. Many of the injured athletes had muscular imbalances, flexibility deficits and/or insufficient functional strength that contributed to their injury. Knowing that these problems could be solved with proper training techniques, we developed several training options to fit the needs of local athletes. Our mission is to train each athlete in a manner that decreases risk of injury and increases athletic performance.

PATTERSON PHYSICAL THERAPY MŌB FAS

mobfasThe physical demands and affects that dedicated practice and performance impose on the body are no stranger to me. In fact my own challenges are what sparked my interest in the field of physical therapy. Many musculoskeletal problems those of us in the arts encounter are preventable, but it has been challenging for many artists and craftspeople to know where to turn for advice on preventing injury and optimizing performance as it relates to their individual needs and concerns.

At Patterson PT we have created Mōb FAS: Mōbility For the Artist’s Sake, a customizable program utilizing Fusionetics, the same training software used by professional athletes to evaluate and track the musculoskeletal system, prevent injury and optimize performance.

PATTERSON PHYSICAL THERAPY BALANCE TRAINING / FALL PREVENTION

Balance Training and Fall PreventionHere at PPT we offer a complete approach to balance training. We are knowledgeable and able to evaluate multiple body symptoms including joint range of motion, strength, position awareness, agility, posture and gait. Physical Therapists are experts in prescribing active movement techniques and physical exercise to improve these systems. We will discuss activity goals with you, and design an exercise program to address your individual needs and goals. Your Physical Therapist will help you reach those goals in the safest, fastest, and most effective way possible.

We perform a thorough evaluation to identify deficits and then design a program for your specific needs. We consistently retest to be sure we are progressing and will frequently make adjustments based on your progress and needs.

PATTERSON PHYSICAL THERAPY TOTAL JOINT REHABILITATION

Joint RehabAn estimated 4.7 million Americans have undergone total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and 2.5 million have undergone total hip arthroplasty (THA) and are living with implants. When you have a total joint replacement, the surgeon removes damaged cartilage and bone from the surface of your joint and replaces them with a man-made surface of metal and plastic. We find the rehabilitation of patients with joint replacements is very rewarding. After a joint replacement you will be more mobile and have less Joint Rehabpain and limitations than prior to surgery. Many patients have told us that they feel like they got their life back.

PATTERSON PHYSICAL THERAPY MANUAL THERAPY

Manual Therapy, as the name suggests, is the skilled technique of hands on healing. Massage and joint manipulations can be thought of as two ends of the spectrum. Manually moving soft tissue can promote relaxation, improve blood flow, and increase elasticity. Physically mobilizing joints, the connection between two bones can decrease stiffness, reduce tension and help eliminate by-products of chronic pain or inflammation. There are several types of manual therapy which work on different philosophies and require years of experience to master.

Some methods help to “dissolve” trigger points, elongate connective tissue or that these techniques go Manual Therapyby, some have been passed down from Osteopathic Medicine, Chiropractics, Physical Therapy, and Massage Therapists. Others are considered Eastern Medicine or of Oriental inception. It would take a lifetime to master all of the techniques available that fit into the category of manual therapy, and one manual therapy treatment may be completely different from another. Finding the right therapist with the right techniques for your particular problem can be difficult. As a Certified Manual therapist with over 20 years of experience, Mike can often help those who have given up hope, or who have previously thought therapy did not work for them.
